Women in Serbia must act in concert to ensure a full gender equality and society without prejudice, and thus open doors to other women, Serbian Parliament Speaker Maja Gojkovic said on the occasion of International Women’s Day on Tuesday.

“Our objective is to make sure that Serbia is a merit-based society, in which the achieved results are the only measure of success, regardless of whether you are a man or a woman,” Gojkovic said at an event titled “Changing the world with our own strength” at the Serbian parliament.

The parliament has recognized the need for strengthening gender equality, and formed the Women’s Parliamentary Network tasked to facilitate the closer networking of women, and intensify the cooperation with local self-governments, economic empowerment and the fight against violence, the parliament speaker said.
