The Serbian parliament dismissed Bratislav Gasic from office of the minister of defense with 195 votes in favor and none against.

The motion for Gasic’s dismissal was put forward by Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, as a result of an insulting comment Gasic had directed at B92 journalist Zlatija Labovic.

Vucic also appointed Finance Minister Dusan Vujovic as caretaker defense minister.

The parliament meeting lasted a bit more than seven hours, since the MPs of the ruling coalition left the hall during the day in protest after Democratic Party MP Dragan Sutanovac posted a Twit they found insulting to Serbian parliament Speaker Maja Gojkovic.

Under the Law on Government, the prime minister has to propose the election of a new minister within 15 days from the day of termination of office of the former minister, and the new minister is to be elected by a majority vote of the total number of members of parliament.
