Serbia is a safe country, and that is why Germany will not grant asylum to any asylum seeker from Serbia, German Parliamentary State Secretary Hans-Joachim Fuchtel said on Tuesday.

The German law on asylum refers solely to victims of political persecution. Serbia is a safe country, where people can live freely. This means that the percentage of the asylum seekers from Serbia who will actually get asylum will be zero, Fuchtel told reporters at the Serbian parliament, after a meeting with members of the parliamentary group of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).

Fuchtel said that the German delegation that visited the Serbian parliament on Tuesday included German Ambassador Axel Dittmann, representatives of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the German Development Bank (KfW).
