Floodwaters are receding in most flood-hit regions across Serbia, but all relevant authorities remain on alert Thursday as more rainfall is expected.

The levels of the Sava and the Drina rivers remain steady, and there is no danger of floods for the time being, an Interior Ministry statement said.

The situation is unchanged from Wednesday due to mostly weak rainfall overnight, the head of the Emergency Situations Sector Predrag Maric said Thursday morning.

“More substantial rainfall will begin today, and intensify by 9 pm. A state of full alert has been in place for 48 hours. All our teams and army and police teams are on heightened alert and the situation is being monitored hour by hour,” Maric told Tanjug.

Moderate rainfall is forecast for most of Serbia Thursday, but a fresh wave of precipitation is expected to hit the country at the weekend.
