The central celebration of 17 centuries Edict of Milan

The central celebration of 17 centuries Edict of Milan organized by the Serbian Orthodox Church will be held on October the 6th in the city of Niš.

The Holy Liturgy led by the Patriarch of Constantinople and Ecumenical – Bartholomew with the concelebration of leaders of all other Patriarchate and Archdiocese will be served at 9 am in the front of Church of St. Emperor Constantine and Empress Helena.

For this occasion, a shorter period, a particles of the Holy Cross on which Jesus Christ was crucified and assigned will be taken to the Temple of the Emperor Constantine, as well as an icon of the Virgin of the Sićevo Monastery.

“THE EDICT OF MILAN 313 – 2013, SERBIA“ PROJECT is a national programme of marking the jubilee – 17 centuries of the proclamation of the Edict of Milan, legal document which put a historical end to the three centuries-long persecution of Christians and ensured “the authority of every person to profess the religion that he or she preferred”.
