The film premiere of “Hannah Arendt” by German author Margarete von Trott, will be shown at the film festival “Free Zone” held from 2nd till 7th of November in Hall of Belgrade Cultural Center and Belgrade Youth Center.
The director of the film deals with a crucial period in the life of a woman who is considered one of the most important and most original political thinkers of the twentieth century. The film is set in the period between 1960 and 1964 and describes Hana’s trip to Jerusalem, the famous trial to the officer and Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann, as well as Hana’s reporting for the American magazine “The New Yorker” on that trial.
American writer of Germany and Jewish origin was expecting to find a monster in the defendent, but she was surprised by Eichmann’s indifference. Thus she created her famous thesis of the “banality of evil” and wrote an article causing a scandal in public.
The main role is entrusted to Barbara Sukovoj, Fassbinder’s diva, and the world premiere of the film “Hannah Arendt” was held in early September at the International Film Festival in Toronto which is the largest film festival in North America.
