The ongoing refugee and migrant crisis is a serious challenge that requires a common solution, Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic and UNHCR Deputy High Commissioner for Refugees Kelly Clements agreed on Wednesday.

Dacic said that Serbia, as a transit country, expected a Europe-wide solution, and would continue to provide the necessary assistance to refugees and migrants in the territory of Serbia, the foreign ministry said in a release.

Clements, who is on a visit to Serbia, commended the Serbian government for its conduct in the crisis.

Dacic and Clements spoke in high terms about Serbia’s long cooperation with UNHCR in resolving the issue of refugees from Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, and a large number of internally displaced persons from Kosovo-Metohija.

UNHCR Representative in Serbia Hans Friedrich Schodder also took part in the meeting.
