We welcome the steps that Serbia and Kosovo are taking toward a constructive dialogue. The EU is assisting in that, and that is a historic step, Biden told a news conference in Zagreb at the close of an extraordinary summit held as part of the Brdo-Brijuni Presidential Process.
Biden also said that the US supported the Dayton Peace Agreement and the region’s EU integration.
The EU should include the countries of this part of Europe, Biden noted.
Speaking about the refugee crisis, Biden said the cooperation on this issue was as important as the one in the fight against terrorism.
We will assist the EU in its efforts to prevent entry of terrorists, the US vice president said.
Biden to Nikolic: US appreciates Serbia’s contribution to stability in region
ZAGREB/BELGRADE – The United States appreciates Serbia’s part in overcoming the security challenges, its positive approach to the migrant crisis, and contribution to peace and stability in the region, US Vice President Joseph Biden told Serbian President Nikolic in Zagreb.
In a sincere talk with the US vice president during an extraordinary summit held within the Brdo-Brijuni Presidential Process, Nikolic underlined the need for cooperation in tackling the challenges of today, primarily terrorism.
On the occasion, Biden said that the US backed the policy pursued by President Nikolic and appreciated Serbia’s contribution to peace and stability in the region.
Biden thanked Nikolic for Serbia’s role in overcoming the security challenges, and reiterated the US supported Serbia in its reform efforts and strive to become a full member of the EU, notes the release.
