A memorial plaque with the image of the legendary basketball coach Ranko Zeravica, who died last October, was Wednesday placed on Belgrade’s Hala sportova, which has also been renamed in his honour.

The plaque was unveiled by the president of the municipality of New Belgrade, Aleksandar Sapic – a decorated former water polo player – Basketball Federation of Serbia (KSS) President Dragan Djilas and Vice President Dejan Tomasevic and Zeravica’s wife Zaga.

The municipality fast-tracked a KSS proposal through the procedure to ensure that the famous sports hall – the venue where Zeravica achieved outstanding results with Partizan – can be named after him.

Zeravica won many medals during his tenure as the Yugoslav national team coach.

He also coached clubs such as Partizan, Red Star, Barcelona, Pula, Split, Caserta and Zaragoza.

He was inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2007.
