Norbert Beckmann-Dierkes, head of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation’s Belgrade office, has said that Serbia has been treating refugees well, stressing that we should not be closing borders, but should rather seek a common European solution to the problem.

Beckmann-Dierkes told Tanjug that Germany was aware that Serbia had been making great effort since the beginning of the crisis to help the people who were fleeing bombs and war with a hope of a future in Europe.

I am confident that Serbia would continue doing great job in cooperation with international organizations and NGOs, he said.

Asked about Germany’s opinion on the agreement to reduce the influx of migrants, reached between Austria and the countries on the Balkan Route, Beckmann-Dierkes said that we should not be focusing on closing borders, but rather on finding a joint European solution to the crisis.
