Every cent invested in renewables will pay off multiple times, Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Aleksandar Antic said on the occasion of Earth Day on Friday.

At a conference titled “Serbia Goes Green”, organized by Color Press Group, Antic said we should push for healthy air, food, water that meet all the standards.

The Paris summit has given a new impetus to the fight against global warming, Antic noted, adding there had been a heightened awareness among the most developed countries in the past decades about the need for using green energy.

“Unfortunately, this region of ours is lagging behind,” Antic said, adding that Serbian citizens should join the effort and go green.

At this moment, the share of renewable energy sources in the total consumption is 21 percent, and should increase to 27 percent by 2020, which is a very serious goal that the government set for itself, Antic said.
