Set in a historic house opposite Saborna Church, Znak Pitanja is far more than a place to stop for lunch. Dating back to the early 19th century, it is considered the oldest surviving traditional kafana in Belgrade and remains one of the city’s most recognisable cultural landmarks.
Its unusual name has been part of Belgrade’s story since the late 19th century, when a question mark was temporarily placed above the entrance following a dispute over the kafana’s original name. The symbol remained, eventually becoming one of the most distinctive names in the city.
