President of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (SVM) Istvan Pastor said Tuesday that he expected to meet with Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) leader Aleksandar Vucic very soon to agree “a deal in principle” with him after he had stated his plan to propose Pastor as president of the Vojvodina Assembly.

Pastor told Tanjug that he had talked with Vucic over the phone on the day before and Vucic’s statement came out as a result of the conversation.

“We were making it clear during the (2016 parliamentary election) campaign that we want to continue cooperation with the SNS on the republic level and in several local communities, as well as in the province, and there are no real dilemmas here as far as we are concerned, as we believe that we have had good cooperation at the national level,” said Pastor.

When it comes to SVM election results at the republic level, Pastor said that the party had expected a better result, but four seats were enough for a representative performance in the Serbian parliament.

Pastor said that it was obvious that the SVM needed to establish cooperation with some of the MPs to set up a parliamentary group.
