Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Aleksandar Antic on Wednesday opened the third Renexpo Western Balkans international fair and conference on renewable energy sources and energy efficiency, noting that Serbia is determined not to “waste energy” and that it particularly cares about renewable energy sources.

Energy efficiency and renewables are what Serbia is paying the most attention to because climate change, resulting from decades of industrial development pursued at all costs, is causing environmental disasters and many fatalities around the world, he said.

Serbia’s goal is to boost the share of renewable energy sources to 27 percent by 2020, Antic said, adding that much has been done in this regard, but that much still remains to be done.

Serbia was the first Energy Community member state to adopt the Third Energy Package and make concrete achievements leading to energy efficiency, he said.
