Member of Serbia’s Fiscal Council Nikola Altiparmakov said in Belgrade that to efficiently fight the informal economy, it was vital to strengthen the Tax Administration, and also expressed disagreement with some parts of the national strategy to combat the grey economy.

“Tax administration is the most neglected, given its importance, as when we talk about the fight against the grey economy, to us it is synonymous with strengthening the Tax Administration,” Altiparmakov said, adding that, unfortunately, the issue was not being given the deserved attention.

Speaking at a roundtable on the shadow economy and tax evasion and their impact on economy, organized by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and Business Info Group, Altiparmakov said that a problem was in the Tax Administration having fewer employees than needed and being unable to attract them or keep the most educated staff as the earnings were inadequate.

Speaking on the national strategy, Altiparmakov said that the Fiscal Council had not been involved in its preparation and had not received any answer to their proposals, adding that they did not agree with some of the content.
