After reading this text you’ll believe us when we say that fairy tales do exist and with them enchanted rainforests of immense beauty. Namely, under the same skies as the Kučuj mountains, on a surface of 37 acres, hides a true oasis of undisturbed peace and a strictly protected nature reserve of the I category.
We’re talking about the only Serbian rainforest in which the only rules are the rules Mother Nature set.
And they haven’t been broken by humans for three centuries. The results are, of course, astonishing…
The thing that sets this natural treasure of eastern Serbia apart from all other forests are the beech trees which have been growing here for over 350 years. Their impressive height of over 45 meters and lush green treetops, these trees give Vinatovača a special charm and beauty.
Apart from its fascinating green colour which “relaxes the eyes”, the only Serbian rainforest can also boast with abundant plant and animal species. We mustn’t forget the soothing sounds of the Vitanovac stream, the left tributary of the Resava river. This sound along with the perfectly fresh air will take you to another dimension – the one where nature was left to take its course…
The Vinatovača rainforest is under a strict protection regime – lumbering is prohibited. Even picking plants is forbidden. To enter this nature reserve a consent of the Serbian Institution for Nature Protection.
Another thing that makes this surreal Heaven on Earth special is that not only a single tree hasn’t been cut down here, but not one has been taken away or moved. If a tree falls due to the weight of snow, wind or due to old age, it stays in this rainforest. And that means: perfectly preserved nature, without any human intervention.
This special nature reserve and dark beech forest is located on 640 to 800 meters above sea level, and as such represents a hidden jewel still unknown to the public eye. This is why it’s an unique experience and a one-of-a-kind adventure to walk along the paths of untouched nature such as it is here, in Vinatovača rainforest.
So, let’s not destroy our the treasures nature has given us, but keep and cherish them!
