The Serbian police arrested 46 people suspected of economic crimes, money laundering and bribery in a sweeping operation dubbed “Scanner”, Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said on Friday.

The minister told a news conference that the suspects caused a total loss of over EUR 7 million to the budgets of the Republic of Serbia, the province of Vojvodina and several municipalities.

The list of arrestees includes the five people who have since 2009 allegedly committed several crimes of money laundering and concealed their ownerships in commercial and residential properties on Mt Zlatibor, although they knew the money may have came from drug trafficking, he added.

The authorities also arrested 15 traffic police officers and one judge suspected of taking bribes, the minister said.

Former Red Star football player Zoran Njegus was also apprehended in the “Scanner” operation, in connection with real estate frauds on Mt. Zlatibor, Tanjug learnt from the police.
