The head of the Serbian government office for Kosovo-Metohija Marko Djuric has expressed hope that the new special court for crimes committed by the so-called “Kosovo Liberation Army” (“KLA”), to be headquartered in The Hague, will demonstrate more resolve and more efficiency than the Hague-based International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).
The ICTY has unsuccessfully tried to shed light on some of the crimes committed by former members of the so-called “KLA”, but “instead of justice, we have had an organised witness intimidation and assassination campaign, to which there has been no efficient response,” Djuric said.
“We hope that the new court will also demonstrate more resolve and more efficiency and that the perpetrators of the crimes will at last be brought to justice. Once the trials begin, we also hope that Kosovo-Metohija Albanians will muster the strength to distance themselves in terms of values from crimes committed in their name,” Djuric said in a statement Friday.
