“We have already started preparing for the European single market, WTO membership being an inevitable part of that road,” Miscevic said at a conference on Serbia’s accession to the WTO and EU entry talks, adding this was important for organizing the entire EU negotiation process.
Serbia’s entry to the WTO is an inevitable requirement for closing Chapter 30. In order to join the WTO, Serbia has to lift a ban on trade in GM food, it was noted.
However, the EU’s standards imply the strict control of trade, production and use of GM products, because the bloc attaches special importance to consumer protection, the chief negotiator said.
