OSCE Chairperson-in-Office (CiO), Serbia’s Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said on Tuesday evening that everything was ready for the Ministerial Council, noting that his meeting with OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier marked the official start of the conference in Belgrade.

It is a great recognition for Serbia to chair the OSCE in the year marking 40 years since the signing of the Helsinki Final Act, he noted.

“I think that Serbia has had a balanced approach to various conflicts in the areas covered by the OSCE, from Vladivostok to Vancouver,” Dacic underscored.

The CiO highlighted that over the previous year he had had an excellent cooperation with OSCE Secretary General Zannier and Secretariat.

Zannier: Serbia has been strong, constructive leader

OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier said in Belgrade, after a meeting with OSCE Chaiperson-in-Office Ivica Dacic, that Serbia had been a strong and constructive leader.

“Serbia has been a strong leader, navigating the difficult waters,“ he said at a joint press conference with Serbia’s Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic ahead of the OSCE Ministerial Council in Belgrade.

He said that the Belgrade Ministerial Council would be the best attended in terms of the number of foreign ministers, as far as he could remember.

So many delegations in attendance are an acknowledgement to Serbia that it has chaired the organization constructively, and also a recognition to the OSCE’s agenda and approach in difficult times, Zannier said.
