Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic announced on Monday that Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic cannot remain a minister after making a rude comment to a female B92 reporter.

“We have to protect women in Serbia. It was a bad message to all women. A minister cannot allow that to himself,” Vucic told reporters, adding that Gasic is a friend of his and one of the most loyal ministers, and that he also did his ministerial job well.

It is good that Gasic has apologised and repented, but that is not sufficient, Vucic noted.

“We must draw a line and make a difference,” Vucic said, adding that his government wants a decent Serbia.

How Gasic dismissal will be carried out technically remains to be seen in the coming days, Vucic said, noting that the minister’s comment is the only reason to dismiss him, but that it is a “big issue.”
