Hiking and mountaineering Serbia, breathing some fresh air and seeing breathtaking sites, will make you both healthier and happier.
The elevator broke down and now you’ll have to go on foot up to the 17th floor. Look it at the bright side. You’ll get back in shape – finally you will have a chance to take a walk after a hardworking day, and you can prepare for hiking!
Yes, yes, for hiking. It is time for some action – OK, we don’t have to conquer Mount Everest (8,848 meters above sea level), but it’s time to conquer mountain peaks in Serbia.
You really don’t have to be a professional hiker or a mountaineer and spend a treasure on a short trip way up over the clouds, no, conquering the peaks of 500 to 2,000 meters above sea level is more than enough for an active vacation.
“Arm” yourself with basic equipment – good and comfortable boots, jacket and backpack, and find out what are the best destinations in Serbia for hiking.
Zlatibor
If you go to Zlatibor to “conquer” the Čigota or Tornik peaks, it will be a refreshing experience, especially for your lungs. Most people, smokers in particular, will tell you that after a day or two at Zlatibor, they started breathing – they felt as if their lungs “exploded”. They heard a “click” somewhere in the middle of the chest and suddenly they started breathing, but for real, breathing air after a long time!
But it’s not just a “holiday” for your lungs; it’s a true delight for your eyes as well… When you reach Tornik or Čigota, and you see the entire Serbia in front of you, and then you get all mushy and proud of yourself – not only you proved yourself fit for recreational hiking, but you have also seen Serbia.
Kopaonik
Kopaonik. Kop. Silver Mountain. Sunny Mountain. The largest mountain range in Serbia. Winter holidays. Summer holidays. Skiing. Around 200 sunny days a year, 160 days of snow coverage.
Better known as ski center, and partially as a snowboarding center, but if you would like to go hiking and conquer its peaks, you could start with Vučak (1,714 meters above sea level), than over Markova stena (1,721 m), Mali Gobelj (1,854 m) and Suvo rudište (1,976 m), all the way to Pančićev vrh (2,017 m).
Tara
If we could say that there is a true beauty among mountains in Serbia, it would certainly be Tara (others are also beautiful…it’s difficult to decide truly). Deep gorges and canyons, caves and ravines, thrilling mountain views and forests… There are 19 marked hiking paths, 120 kilometers in total.
Divčibare
Divčibare are located at mount Maljen, 37 kilometers southeast from the city of Valjevo, at 980 meters above sea level. Divčibare has extraordinary geographical position and it is influenced by coastal climate that encounters the Carpathian and Pannonian climate. That would explain the presence of iodine in the air.
It helps treatment of lung diseases, anemia and diseases with neurodegenerative disorders. So, by walking in the nature, you will improve your health at the same time enjoying the nature.
Zlatar
Zlatar is located between the rivers Lim, Uvac, Mileševka and Bistrica, between the cities of Prijepolje and Nova Varoš. All the characteristics of Zlatar are hidden in its name: flowering meadows and clear lakes surrounded with spruce and birch, the combination of Mediterranean and mountain climate, sunny days, fresh mountain air rich with turpentine and ozone, endless views… Do not hesitate, go hiking!
