Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government Kori Udovicki has said that the 2016 budget provides for severance payments for 25,000 public administration layoffs, but it is possible that fewer people will lose their jobs.
In an interview vith Belgrade-based daily Blic, Udovicki said that the goal was not dismissals of people, but rather reducing budget deficit, which was not necessarilly only achievable through dismissals, but rather by changing the way things worked.
“We need to prove this to the IMF. We did earmark in the budget for 2016 severance payments that would be sufficient for 25,000 layoffs, but the budget was planned very conservatively,” said Udovicki, saying that it would not be good for Serbia to leave 30,000 public administration employees jobless in 2016.
