The coronation of Stefan Prvovenčani, declaration of autocephalous church and St Sava as the first archbishop, foundation of the independent state and endowments are important events from the period of Nemanjić dynasty, but Serbian history as well.
Eight centuries of the first Royal coronation in Žiča Monastery will be marked next year, and that was the inspiration for the filming of the show.
Namely, the Public Service Media has announced a competition for the best scenario for the drama TV show about the coronation of Stefan Prvovenčani and the first Nemanjić kingdom.
The jury made of Milan Vlajčić, a publicist, Goran Marković, a film scenarist and a director, Smilja Marjanović Dusanić, a historian, will decide about the winner of a contest which is open until January 31st.
“This is a big challenge for RTS, the public service with a long tradition of drama TV shows. We should dig into the history area which is enlightened in other European countries. We know that BBC and Italians find great reasons in the medieval period. We won’t be using the same models, but we want their experiences”, says Milan Vlajčić.
Nemanjići are a medieval dynasty which had ruled the Raska between 12th and 14th century and which was named after Stefan Nemanja, the founder of the dynasty. Serbian Orthodox Church marks the rulers from this dynasty as Saints and has cherished their cult for centuries.
There is no doubt that the famous Royal family has left an inerasable historical mark, and about its importance and respect for its members, tells the fact that they were also called the holy lineage. For that reason, the filming of this TV show represents an important revival of the history, and Goran Marković stresses that a show like this one hasn’t been done in Serbia yet.
“I am honored to be a member of this jury in a house where I used to work a lot, but I think that this TV show is different from everything that was done here and which is planned to be done. I believe that this is a great opportunity and a huge responsibility”, said Marković.
