A house, a castle, a chateau or a church? These are some of the perplexities which happen inside heads of the passers-by when they see the most famous building in Ripanj. And although we knew that it was about the “ordinarily unordinary house” with creative and imaginative owner, we couldn’t help but ask ourselves- what does it represent and where did the idea of building this utterly unusual home come from?
We got the answer from residents of Ripanj, who are more than familiar with the story about this 8-floor house and its owner. Namely, the imposing building stands at this place over than 114 years. Its modern history starts with 90’s of the last century when its current owner Andreja Kačarević decided to buy it. However, its height, luxurious appearance and recognizable dome haven’t always adorned it.
When Kačarević, a former designer and a lover of unusual architecture decided to buy it, the house had only three floors and was in very bad shape. Still, Andreja didn’t gave up on the idea of making it according to the most beautiful buildings of Belgrade such as National Assembly and churches. Result of the hard work, dedication and love he put in it, finally saw daylight after 300 days.
Ripanj got its landmark, the most unusual house, but one-of-a-kind attraction that attracts more and more curious visitors that want to see it live, as well. Amiable neighbours tell us with smile on their faces how many residents stand in front of the house in wonder, thinking about it, take pictures and some of them even cross themselves thinking it is a church.
The owner wanted to express Byzantine style, but in a Serbian way. People who worked on building churches helped him a lot, and besides the huge effort and work they’ve put in it, the house in Ripanj required large financial investments.
Whatever the impression the house leaves on you, one is for sure- you won’t remain indifferent. Idea and a goal of the proud owner are fulfilled that way, and it is also interesting that the Rupanj castle really has become a landmark for residents and citizens of surrounding places. Tall dome which you can’t pass through, and according to the owner, every part of the house has a special story which makes a whole together with other ones.
House that triggers a large number of positive, but as negative comments as well, hasn’t been finished yet. It is not familiar when the construction will end, but there is no doubt that the owner will persevere in his idea.
And while we wait for the epilogue of the story about the Ripanj Castle, you can enjoy the photo gallery and write your thoughts on this unusual house, below in the comment section.
