The central celebration of 17 centuries since the Edict of Milan was marked by the holy liturgy served by Patriarch Bartholomew, assisted by the heads and representatives of local Orthodox churches on October 6th at Niš, Serbia.

The liturgy was held in front of the newly erected temple of Holy Emperor Constantine and Empress Helena in Niš, and it was served by the patriarchs of Moscow, Jerusalem and Serbia, archbishops of local orthodox churches and priests. Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church Irinej has decorated the distinguished guest from the religious and political life with the medal of Holy Emperor Constantine the Great.

“THE EDICT OF MILAN 313 – 2013, SERBIA“ PROJECT is a national programme of marking the jubilee – 17 centuries of the proclamation of the Edict of Milan, legal document which put a historical end to the three centuries-long persecution of Christians and ensured “the authority of every person to profess the religion that he or she preferred”.
