Geox is planning to hire around 1,250 people in the factory, and have the annual output of 1,250,000 pairs of stylish, high-quality shoes for women.
The Italian company invested EUR 15.8 million in this factory, and the Serbian government gave subsidies worth EUR 11.25 million for the building and opening of the production facilities.
This is the first Italian factory built in the Vranje industrial zone.
Geox Group is present in 114 countries, in around 10,000 stores.
Around 70 percent of its turnover is achieved outside Italy.
VRANJE – The time has come for Serbia to change its approach toward the poorest part of the society, Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said at the opening of a Geox factory, noting that citizens of the southern town of Vranje would now have secure and good jobs.
“We will continue building the infrastructure in these municipalities. The government will facilitate the arrival of foreign investors,” the prime minister said.
Serbia’s Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic also attended the opening ceremony and voiced the hope that Geox would stay in Serbia for a long time.
Geox Executive Director Mario Moretti Polegato said that the factory would hire 1,250 people, and bring a new shoemaking technology to Serbia,
Italian Ambassador to Serbia Giuseppe Manzo noted that the Polegato family would bring to Vranje not only the jobs, but also its business culture.
