Detour around the medieval city and the monumental complex Kadinjača

Long and stormy history has scattered around the traces of the past all around Užice.

One of the most significant ones is the medieval fortress settled at a high rock which steeply downs to the Đetinja River.

The city of Užice with pieces left of bulwarks and forts, represents the one-of-a-kind monument of history and very interesting tourist attraction. During summer, theatrical plays are being shown right at this place.

Another significant place is the composite architectural and museological unity known as a monumental complex Kadinjača, today a witness of the November 29th, 1941.

Namely, that day is the day when fighters of workers’ battalion bravely lost their lives in a fight for Kadinjača. Their heroism is immortalized on a grandiose monument opened in 1979 by Josip Broz Tito.

Užice is one of the eight cities re-named in 1946 to Titovo Užice. This name, the city had carried until 1992, and by then, it has become one of the most developed cities of SFRJ. Another interesting historical fact is related to the time of World War II, when Užice was the center of the Republic of Užice, the only free territory in the occupied Europe.
